Series Description

Immerse your mind, body and spirit for a weekend of Japanese yoga.

A yoga teacher’s only experience where you will find the therapy of Spring Yoga with an in-depth study of how to work with the Wood Element and yoga postures, asanas, breathing and movement that expresses energy of the Liver and Gallbladder meridians.

About the Workshop

Day 1 Friday

5.00pm   

Welcome – Orientation discussion to ensure you get the most out of a Japanese Yoga Retreat with intention and goal setting 

6.00pm

Evening Spring Yoga Session that will help to set your intentions for the weekend with yoga designed to unlock your mind and refocus on new ways to look at your teaching.   If you have never done Japanese or Meridian yoga then you may be surprised on how well it will help you teach foundational, body-balance yoga using our ability to adapt through proprioception.

You will receive a copy of this classes before the session so you can make notes to make a valuable addition to your existing teaching resources.

7.30pm

Light Macrobiotic Vegetarian Supper  The food we eat can influence how we feel, move and plan for the future.  All the food over the weekend will help support the liver and gallbladder meridians, ensuring that you get the most out of the expansive energy of Spring.

8.30pm

Japanese Meridian Meditation  Learn something new, or brush up on some Japanese meridian meditation techniques that will help improve your mindset and add something a little different into your spring classes.

Day 2 Saturday

6.00am

Greet the Day with Japanese Chakra Chanting

6.15am

To make the most of our Spring energy we wake up with the sun and then get out there with our toes in the grass and enjoy the break-out feeling going Winter to Spring.

We will start off with some Japanese Meridian Stretches, then a breath-controlled yoga-jog before you wake up your biggest organ with a skin scrub ready for a river swim/dunk and/or shower!

7.30am

Spring Morning Japanese Yoga Master Class where you will experience yoga asanas like never before.   Focus into the Liver and Gallbladder meridian to clear out anger and deep established tension that will help you clear away the baggage that has been holding you back.  It is amazing how easy it is to solve problems when you are thinking with the energy of Spring.

8.30am

Wholefood Medicines that will help you tap into the energy of Spring, clear out stagnation in the liver and work to keep your joints, tendons and ligaments healthy, happy and balanced.

9.00am 

Macrobiotic Vegetarian Breakfast  All your meals this weekend has been selected to detoxify the liver without making you feel like you are missing out.  Ideas flow more freely with a clear, happy liver.  The Wood element of Spring helps us balance our input and output.  Do you take in enough to balance what you give out? 

10.00am

Interactive Tutorial – What is the Liver Meridian

This session will discuss how and why we use the Masanunga (Japanese – yes it’s different to TCM) Liver meridian in yoga and includes how to use acupressure of the main meridian points in your yoga teaching.  You will also learn how to teach the Remedial Yoga Therapy (RYT) liver asanas to best increase flexibility by reducing joint immobility.

11.30am

Down Time set for a walk, wiggle your toes in the dirt, lay out in the sun or run through a Spring rain shower.

12.30pm

Macrobiotic Vegetarian Lunch  Supporting the joints of your body with food that allows you to make the most out of the energy in Spring foods.   We will also have a shop open with macrobiotic foods that you can get at wholesale prices to share with your family, friends and yoga clients.

2.00pm

Liver Meridian Adjustment & Master Class A this session we will be deconstructing the prime liver moves and discussing how we use this process to improve practical focusing techniques and your teaching goals and session outcomes.

Our main focus will be on alignment in the main liver meridian postures including Triangle pose (Trikonasana), Eagle pose (Garudasana), Archer pose (Akarna Dhanurasana), Full Lord of the fishes (Matsyendrasana). Advanced bound twists; and the Japanese Liver meridian asana.

4.00pm

Rest up & Relax  Before the end of the day we encourage a reflective time to give you time to take advantage of our self-pamper station for a foot or hand scrub or take yourself off under a tree with a good book to keep you company or sit and watch the world go by and be thankful you are not taking part for an hour or two.

6.00pm

Macrobiotic Vegetarian Dinner  You don’t need to starve yourself to detox.  Enjoy a meal of organic wholefoods that will satisfy your hunger and your body requirements for stress-free detoxing.

7.30pm

Oriental Therapies & Healing  We will be encouraging you to give and receive cupping, moxibustion and gua sha.  As the Liver is responsible for moving the blood and the meridian itself about the free flow of energy in the mind, body and spirit, we use cupping and gua sha to remove stagnation and improve blood circulation.

9.30pm

Japanese Meridian Meditation  Self-Focusing techniques that include focus into the Liver and Gallbladder meridians or complete your day curled up near the fire.

Day 3 Sunday

6.00am

Greet the Day with Japanese Chakra Chanting

6.15am

You will be looking forward to this now that your realise how wonderful you felt yesterday.   Wake you and your body up again with Japanese Meridian Stretches then another lap of the grounds with breath-controlled yoga-jog (be surprised how much easier it is today).  Then invigorate your skin again with a scrub and rid yourself of any toxins with a quick dip in the water.

7.30am

Spring Morning Japanese Yoga Master Class where we will solidify the information that you have learnt in the previous morning session with some strong Japanese meridian yoga and some content you may not have tried before.

8.30am

Wholefood Medicines to help your body continue to expel toxins and help clear your eye sight and mind of clutter.

9.00am 

Macrobiotic Vegetarian Breakfast  We know that you will be hungry and enjoy a great breakfast to balance your input / output.  Feel the changes that your body has already made.  

10.00am

Dynamic breathing and meditation session – walk and meditate.  How good is that?

12.30pm

Macrobiotic Vegetarian Lunch It’s not the last supper but it will be your last meal on retreat.  Don’t rush it and enjoy another great spring meal together.

2.00pm

Gallbladder Meridian Adjustment & Master Class

In this session we will be deconstructing the prime gallbladder moves and discussing how we use this process to improve practical focusing techniques and your teaching goals and session outcomes.

Our main focus will be on alignment in the main liver meridian postures including Japanese gallbladder meridian asanas, Gallbladder spirit adjustment movements and partner work and RYT adjustment moves for:

  • scoliosis
  • shoulder issues
  • spinal adjustments
